Once again a terrific picture!
Your artistic skill only gets better and better!
This Rain I like more than the other "New" varieties, though the big paws may make holding swords difficult! She can take any form she desires, correct?
I am very happy with the return of the "classic" style head instead of the wider one. It's still not this design: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2222682/ but it's a step in the right direction I think.

It is a matter of tact. There is a Huge difference between expressing an opinion among your FA friends and saying it straightly to the artist in such words as "...I'm wanting you to..." and "it's a BAD idea".
I know that there are people, wishing "old Rain" to come back, I have seen other comments here and there, expressing the same idea. BUT - "comments differ".
You might, of course, stamp me as old-fashioned and assure that "FA" and "politeness" in any of its forms are incompatible things - I still think, that they Are. Oh well...

I've made too many comments on this page already, but while I think Zelinko comes off as rude sometimes, I do see it as a form of constructive criticism, if lacking in politeness. Most people, well, actually everyone I know prefers the old designs and wish Mick would go back to them, but don't openly say their opinion here, which is both good and bad. It's good because there is no potential for hurt feelings, but bad because the opinion of a lot of fans are unheard. I'm tempted to start a petition or something.
I'm not saying that a majority is always right, but there is something that these new designs lack that the old designs had that made people fall in love with the sergal race in the first place. I think it's that, with all of the new designs, Mick makes them more similar to things you would see on earth instead of a more alien landscape.
The feather-butt design gave the females of a non-human species breasts, a far too often seen fantasy trope, and gave them a bird's rear end that in a lot of people's eyes made them look ridiculous. The big white fluffy Rain had the same issues. The great big Kaiju Rain didn't look like Rain at all anymore, and this one has too many mammalian features like paw feet instead of taloned and thick hands like a bear. In addition, the face is less angular, with shorter ears and now no-longer slitted pupils, and other features like the purple end of the forked tongue just look out of place. The eyes also appear to no-longer be forward facing at all, a terrible feature for a predator to have, and the mouth appears to go too far back to be believable now, I think.
I have nothing but love for Mick, he's a fantastic artist and I've loved his works ever since I originally saw that picture of Rain looking around the corner in 2005, and while sergals will always remain his and he's free to change their design however he likes, I don't feel that the redesigns are taking Sergals in the right direction. As a fan of them, I want to see them continue to be fantastic, not just "once have been great." I say these things because I care.

Consctuctive criticism is something which makes artist develop as artist. Critique on anatomy, composition, light/shadow, colour work and other aspects of ART - this is constructive criticism. What you do here is an intrusion :3
"while sergals will always remain his and he's free to change their design however he likes" Period.
It is not you or any of us, whom Vilous and Sergals (and any other Vilous race) were created for. It's a part of artist's soul - it's not your right to make the artist do as you please, and it concerns not only Mick, of course, but any other artist, who has his or her own creatures/world. Creator knows better than you how things in his world go and how creatures should look, it's only his will, which is counted - unless he asks for your opinion himself. And he does not.
Note please, that it is not some specific design I speak in support of, but the person. You might have noticed, that I'd never expressed my opinion here on how "right" or "wrong" each new design seems to me - and I am not going to do this in the future. Because. And can you really say for sure, if I agree with you or not?.. No you can't.
Mick is "searching" for Rain's and sergal final look, he does this as he feels - and be sure, this won't stop until he finds what he needs. So the only thing devoted fans should do here is wait.
Speaking of the petition..What a "sweet" idea :> Looks very much like "We, Devoted Fans, announce: we liked Old Rain more than all other designs! So Stfu and do as we want!"
...Epic, isn't it?

I don't think you understand how I view this. I'm not saying that Mick should "revert the design or stop entirely" - Far from it. Beautiful pictures like the one above make my day. I would never "demand" anything from an artist, that's silly and stupid, unless I was getting a commission why would I dare control something someone else does for fun?
Constructive criticism is more than anatomy issues. If anyone were to suggest a better item of clothing or feature for a character that's already gone through multiple redesigns I hardly think that it would be ill welcomed, it's simply more input to draw views and opinions from. If someone were to say to me "This looks great, but I feel a pink tutu would fit better in this cyberpunk environment than that hoodie" I'd find out why, take a step back and look at it myself, and then either decide I was right the first time or go with the suggestion. If multiple people said that a tank top would look far better, or that an older design with a sweatshirt was considerably better, I'd probably go with that, reassured by the opinions of other people.
I don't feel any submission on this site should be viewed as "Compliment or get out." The entire point of comments is to take input from multiple people and better the next drawing from their collective criticisms, compliments, etc, not just "Keep doing what you're doing and never change, no matter what." If I was heading down the dark path of making a terrible character or really screwing up something in my images, I for sure would want someone to tell me. I'm not saying Mick is, only that everyone has that potential, and some, like
strype actually listen to the input and in their own opinion better themselves from it.
As for that last bit: A petition as I think of it would most likely never work due to not enough people hearing about it, drama, and trolls, but the way I'd see it would be more like an intervention than a demand. "We, the fans, really think you got it right the first time they appeared on the internet, if that means anything to you." Judging from your last reply, the opinions of others lon issues like this probably mean nothing to you, but at least to me, if I had a great deal of people telling me I had something right before, I'd feel relieved, fantastic, and eager to try out what they say to see for myself. I'm not saying an artist should follow fan demand, but to listen to fan input and then decide for themselves. It's my firm belief that only good can come from having a variety of different opinions told to you about a piece.
On another note, I'd like to apologize to you personally, because it sounds like I've offended you, which was not my intention in this or any other post. You're one of my favorite artists, and like I've said before, I still have the reference page for Gaeddar open whenever I practice drawing Sergals.

It wasn't you whom we've been talking about in the first place ) And the reason for my first comment was not the fact of someone not liking the design, but person's tone - as I have said, "Comments differ".
I am not totally into "Compliment or get out" politics, but what I am wholeheartedly For is "Critique or potentially not-too-pleasant things should be expressed as politely and unconflictive, as possible". You see, I have encountered quite a lot of situations of such kind lately - with not my own drawings being rudely commented, but my friends'.
It is far from being normal, when absolutely unfamiliar person says something like "The other design was better, you got rid of the colors and messed up the eyes and the face looks bad. Shame on you" I find such things unspeakably vile.
Speaking of constructive criticism... I am inclined to believe that when it comes to species' or character's bodily/personal features, artists prefer sticking to their own opinion and inner vision of the creatures. Critique on these issues either gets ignored or causes solely negative emotions. Thus, to my mind, it is better to refrain from criticizing these aspects of person's art, unless the artist asks for opinions him or herself. But it's only my firm belief )
I have to admit, that I tend to judge by myself or my closest fellow artists. I appreciate critique on technique issues Greatly. But not on the matters, mentioned above - as I know what my creatures or characters look like. If I don't, I start "searching" for them by myself and only when I am satisfied with the result, I decide to stick to some specific design * and for some unknown reason I percieve Mick as one of such artists as well * The only reason, why I may not depict them as precisely as I see them in my mind, is a massive lack of skills X)
You haven't offended me personally in any way, so there is no need to apologize. When it concerns my favourite artists, such situations as one we discussed rouse indignation from my side - but once again, it wasn't you who caused it X3
And thank you for appreciation ^^ Though, speaking of drawing sergals and Ged reference - oh you really should get rid of this practice of taking that as an example, as my anatomy skills had - and have - much to be desired :D Mick's works are the best references, especially if take into consideration, that he has drawn sergal males as well (I even have one non-public picture of young sergal warrior from the times we used to chat in MSN). Or Seppenator's (epicwang) pictures of them - I find her sergals very neat, and her anatomy skills in general are great.
*and sorry for my bad English*

I've only recently found Epicwang again here on FA so I'm still going through her gallery from time to time, but right now I'm using a variety of references. The last time I used just Ged's reference page is the image that's in my gallery, from when me and a few others thought Rain was the creature that was dead in the snow in a recent image. More recently I'm using Mick's older works for the legs, the two vore commissions for the face, and then Ged's reference page for face angles and a couple other things. I like the way the chest looks on it, with the slimmer pectorals, for some reason it just clicks with the "denser not larger" methodology that I see suggested for a sergal's muscles compared to a human's. That, and it makes their stomachs look even longer, giving them a more lanky appearance than usual.
I'm sorry to hear that people respond to your works in such a fashion. I know Zelinko from a chat, and while I've already stated my views here like I said before I think he goes too far. I've already spoken to him once about it. I'm very glad he's saying his opinion instead of staying silent, but I agree that he could and should certainly be more polite and less confrontational in doing so.
You don't have to apologize for your english, it's actually quite good, though it seems that everyone I know that draws sergals is from Europe and thus is speaking English as their second language. I talk regularly with three artists from germany, poland and estonia, so the language barrier is no stranger to me.
I would also like to see the picture you mentioned of the young sergal male, if it's possible. Is it the one of him standing there with the two other sergals looking over the hill at him?

I haven't received such kind of comments to my own works (yet) and I suppose, I'd be quite thick-skinned if it happened to me - but friends and favourite artists is absolutely different talk.
Thank you X) Good to know that I'm still understandable enough - lack of practice does its part, unfortunately.
No, not this one. Aaand it seems that I haven't seen the one you've mentioned. I'd really like to, if that's ok :>
Also, catch the mail with pictures

*cough* DEFINITELY just you *cough*
No really, if you want avian features go for the Nevreans, the sergals started as some sort of shark-wolf-cat-raptor hybrid and most of their fans still draw them in that original style. It's how they were introduced and it's the preferred one by a good majority.
Though even moreso than the feathers, the breasts caused a huge problem with a LOT of people...

Damn, she is so cute looking now! And it makes a terrific contrast with her wicked personality.
What I wonder about: we have seen so many different appearances of Rain - but what is her original look? Are all these variations of her appearance - her "hapeshifter games"? Or is one of them considered to be the final design?

From what I understand most of these are alternate designs she can shapeshift into. "Great Big Rain," "Big White Fluffy Rain," "New Fluffy Rain (Seen Above)," "Feather Butt Rain," and "Classic/Original/Old Rain."
The Feather Butt Rain was a redesign/retcon for all of sergals to include breasts and feathers on the rears of females, as well as widen the head, shorten the ears, and other minor differences. This was the "Main" Rain for the last few months. This Rain would shift between the Feather Butt, Big White Fluffy, and Great Big forms.
This new one looks like it's the "fluffy" version of another redesign/retcon for sergals that takes away the breasts again at long last, if not the feathers as well. Note that she's not described as a dinosaur here but as a "canid-general." Hopefully with this, Mick brings back the "classic" design for the rest of the sergals...

I like this version of General Rain. I've always thought that the northern Sergals should have added polar bear-like features to make them more northern-ier. Southern Sergals should retain the wolf-shark-raptor look so that they can be easily differentiated from the northerners.
..but the new look would work better if the northern Sergal's home is located on the tundra instead of a dessert.
Just a suggestion.
