This is really not furry related at all, but I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else has a similar interest in science, math, or engineering. I spent a lot of time on this since I knew basically nothing about fractals prior to this. And, I've been running on very little sleep xD
I couldn't sleep last night so I did the obvious thing that anyone would do... I took a detailed look at the base Mandelbrot set* with MATLAB! :D I had a lot of fun writing the script for this and playing around with the result. This is a 2K image centered around the point 0.278831000072 - 0.008814999498i on the complex plane with a square range of ~0.000061035. The dark red region represents where the recursion did not diverge (no iteration reached or exceeded 2) within in 4000 iterations, while the dark blue represents where the recursion diverged after only one iteration.
Mandelbrot set:
fC0 = C, fCn = (fCn-1)^2 + C, where C is the point on the complex plane, and n is the iteration number.
