While sushi is traditionally a finger food in Japan (not including sashimi, which is always to be eaten with chopsticks), either is acceptable. In fact, in modern days, most people tend to use chopsticks (myself included). I find it much more comfortable this way.

It is always good to spread information like that, I'm certain many would not know that sushi was originally intended to be a street food. ^^ That said, I would never tell someone how to eat. Then again, I've never much cared to follow particular etiquette, so I'm not the best judge, haha. (Don't invite me to a dinner party, ever.)
