Here at my house it's the same with my cats. The dominant one is the thin female (granted, she's rather large for a female, but still). The omega is the big 16lbs of muscle orange boy. :p
The third one is probably only beta because she was there before the big boy, because she doesn't pay attention to hierarchy whatsoever. She doesn't pay attention to anything, actually... She's my little autistic kitty... Haha Body of an 11 year old semi-feral, and yet the heart and spirit of a kitten. :p

Hehe, does the boss want to eat last in your house?
Around here, Mlle Ronron, the alpha, will never want to eat before the others. She will wait until they've both left the dish before going for a bite. I thought she was intimidated by the other two as they're both very enthusiastic about food, so I started feeding her in a small dish on her own, but no. She will still wait until they've started eating before she herself goes for it.
And I know of another alpha cat in a friend's feral colony (a male this time) who used to wait and eat last as well.
I was wondering whether it was possible the alpha cats do that because they sort of feel responsible for the others on their territory.
Cats can be much more sociable creatures than we used to assume, it's such fun to discover all the little details of their coexistence. :)
