I kind of questioned myself posting this (insurance, plagiarism, et cetera). But I simply couldn't resist. The historical value is simply far too immense to hold back. Back in February learning that one of my top role models in history is still alive and turned age 100, I thought I'd never get the chance to communicate with him. Though unsure if I am going to ever have the opportunity to meet and speak with him in his lifetime, this is certainly satisfactory. I wrote a birthday letter to him the same month. Some time in May he manged to send a letter out in response to mine. I was excited and awestruck reading these words.
Albin Irzyk. Born in Salem, MA on the 2nd of January, 1917. He was a commander of the 8th Tank Battalion in the Last Great War, and is currently the oldest and last surviving member of the command of his battalion and regiment during the war. He also served in the 14th Calvary Regiment during the famed Berlin Crisis of 1961. He was an assistant commander of the 14th Infantry Division during Vietnam. He was doing work at Army HQ at Saigon when the famed crisis broke down, and organized the QRF at the Tet Offensive. Heading back stateside, he became a commanding Brigadier General at Fort Devens in a region between Ayer and Shirley, MA (just NW from where I live,
same county) until 1971. He retired. And has written multiple books since then. And is, as he wrote to me on his 6th book.
[EDIT] I will cutdown the size of the image just so I don't release any private information on either mine or Irzyk's part. That was just stupid thinking initially.
