Ah, SNAFU, we meet again. In the Corps we had several of these, one no longer current was FUBID, Fuck you buddy, I'm detached, in answer to a meddling officer or nco giving orders when you are operating under the command of a higher rank. This needed to be used with discretion, for obvious reasons. Of course there was FUBAR, beyond all repair, and especialy the immortal FUBAB, beyond all belief. Fubab in my day had given way to "Chinese arithmetic", but the sentiment was the same. The simplest thing in the Corps will go FUBAB no matter what unless things are life and death. It is like it is designed to spin out of control, and it takes incoming artillery for everyone to get it together and fast.

And, of course, there's TARFU, which comes between SNAFU and FUBAR.

Don't forget Charlie-Foxtrot.
