I almost feel bad for Handwing but I wonder what drove him to this way of life?
Will that be explained or does it have to do with the genetic problems that comes with being a vampire? Is this how he fights the pain?
(That plus I know he uses his best friend's death as an excuse to go over the edge but I still wonder.)

He started getting into drug use, and all his other bad habits, just being a stupid kid trying to be cool and thinking it was fun. It got worse when his genetic problems started to affect him, and continually worse from there because by then he was already heading down towards the deep end of that lifestyle. Not that Beijeye's death isn't something that's taken a huge toll on him, but the way he uses it, it really is just an excuse, he was already pretty far gone and not that much of a better person before that.
