The end product is this slightly odd image of Saara apparently hovering a couple of feet in the air, without lower legs. The strip at the bottom is reserved for a box to list features inside (including my interview, I would assume).

I don't even know what Yume Nikki or "strange planet" are, so the short answer is "no."
But I've been around some parts of the southwest, and seem millions of photos, so it wasn't hard to come up with something that looked realistic.
The basic idea I had was of an area with plenty of sub-surface ice. Then, millions of years ago it melted, and the draining water caused the surface to begin a collapse. Continued collapse and drainage eventually created this subsistence gully, choked with rubble. Areas like it do exist on Mars, though I can't claim I know what they look like on the spot.

I haven't played any video games in years -- the only two I had any interest in were "adventure" games. "The Neverhood" was one. There was another one about tracking a killer mime through Paris and other exotic locations, who belongs to a secret Templer organization, but I can't recall the exact name of it. Games that are mostly motion and noise and gunfire don't interest me. I'm also uninterested in playing the air guitar. Not to mention I have a constitutional objection to paying scores of dollars for these things.
Free. You can download it free. The tricky part is to get it to work on your computer since it's japanese software, but it comes with an instruction manual on how to get the computer to understand the program. It's a bit boring at first since it's mostly wide spaces... at least until you find some secrets, and it gets better from there on.
Oh, nothing like that. your computer has a program already built into it, but it's almost never used, so almost nobody knows of it. I forgot the specifics but there's instructions on how to find that and use it. it also comes with a program called applocale in case you can't. Nothing like hacking or tinkering.
Geeze, I probably should have picked better words for that, huh?

I suggest unzip and take a look at the instructions first. I think you're overestimating what I meant. ^^;

"The Link"? But it's just the student newspaper this is appearing as the cover of. I modeled it after a real cover. I can't imagine any good reason for Saara standing around on Mars reading an obscure college paper, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I plan to use this on some fanzine, eventually, and will remove the "Link" cover from the art.
