Since I knew I'd have a problem cleaning up and colouring a complicated background as was in the original sketch, I needed an alternative. It was suggested to me by someone at the paper that I could use a bit of the background from the art I did for the Worldcon's latest PR. Sure enough, it was possible to crop out a reasonably sized piece of landscape with nothing in the foreground.
