I really love this, all the way through. I'm not sure I like the ending so much but I think because of that I like it all the more... like it is so true to 'granddad' stories.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a little anticlimactic. Pretty much all stories in life are, after all. :D At least they tend to go into directions you never expected, for the better as well as for the worse.
