Do anyone remember how it was before the release of Yooka-Laylee? How a surprisingly large amount of people thought of Yooka as a girl before it was clarified that he's indeed male?
I do remember! And so do a certain chameleon! And he has decided to express his thoughts regarding that particular point! :D

Given that Yooka is not of the same species as she is, Laylee already like Yooka regardless of if he fits the bat standarts of masculinity or not (SPOILER: he does not. For obvious reasons).
Though Yooka's ego does take hits from the fact that he's, well, not exactly the most masculine-looking platforming hero of all time.

As I pointed out, Yooka, though more stylized in canon than in my sketches, isn't exactly the most macho platformer hero of all time. And given Laylee lack the usual cartoon traits given to non-human girls in most visual media, it is natural for most people to assume she is male by default.
