Spectrum
It/Its
Hoodbeast
Favourite Energy: Pride, and the sense of belonging. Righteous anger towards unjust treatment and rage.
Personality: Fun-loving and excitable, Spectrum loves to run and play amongst the feet and floats of the Pride Marches. Nothing makes it happier than being surrounded by beings full of righteous rage, and it echos their passion in itself. As such, Spectrum is loud and proud and passionate, especially when surrounded by like-minded beings.
When by itself, Spectrum is much more reserved. Cautious, bordering on fearful, it keeps to itself. It's joyful, playful side comes out when around beings it knows it can trust.
Physiology: Spectrum is shaped like a friend- I mean, like some kind of squirrel/raccoon hybrid. In its Bipedal form it's mostly streamlined, with short, smooth fur, but its Quadrupedal form is covered in thick, dense fur that's super soft to the touch. This follows it into Beast form (not shown).
History:
On the day the first brick flew, Spectrum was there.
Small and new, its first cloth was a discarded, faded scarf, and from within it it watched and felt and tasted the rage in the air, the fury of the silenced silent no more. It ran through the crowds, stood with the rioters, and comforted the fearful as the law fought back.
As things escalated, the then-unnamed Spectrum found itself moving from clothing to clothing, each previous 'body' becoming damaged and unsuitable as the rioters and police fought. A shirt, a dress, a shawl, anything and everything would do as it refused to leave the queer people, its people. It was young and small and new, but it knew that this was where it belonged.
Now, many, many years since it's birth, Spectrum has never left those people. It saw the aftermath of the riots, felt the anger that to this day never faded. It saw the first anniversary of those riots, and the first marches of Pride, and it walked proudly with the people it had been born to. It's clothing changed as the years went on, of course, as not every reaction to its colours was a peaceful one. Spectrum found it didn't really care, however, as eventually the gay pride flag was introduced, and every other piece of fabric was deemed Unworthy.
For a very, very long time Spectrum inhabited one of those flags.
Nowadays things are much more relaxed for the Hoodbeast, thankfully. Pride events are safer, the colours are somewhat less dangerous to fly, and in the times where the Parades don't happen, most people simply leave it be. Spectrum lives quite happily in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood, content to travel as the Parades come and retire as they go. It's wiser now, too, inhabiting a newer body composed of a stylish hoodie. Though, of course, it was never quite able to say no to the additions of some of its favourite flags!
