The Rathalos and Rathian are amongst the monsters who are most tolerant of humans. Even the Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian are viewed as a benevolent king and queen who are indifferent to their presence, so long as they're left alone.
Not that it stops humans from constantly hunt them down. Jack Mist, more than many, wanted the strength and power of these wyverns for himself. And so he hunted them until he had fashioned an armor set from their corpses, playing himself as a noble knight who slaid dragons for princesses from afar.
Then, one day, he was assigned a task by a group obssessed with stealing eggs for unknown purposes. It wasn't his place to ask, however, despite that egg missions usually ended pretty badly. He would need some way to finish it quickly.
That was when he was met by a strange peddler who was offering him a two-way farcaster. It was a special item that would take him directly to the Rathian's nest and even take him back when he had the egg. At only 500 Zenny, it sounded like a sweet deal.
So of course he wound up using it immediately at the base camp. It took him directly to the nest, as advertised. Strangely, the mother was nowhere to be found, leaving its eggs completely vulnerable. This was the perfect opportunity to snatch them while the farcaster cloud was still hissing.
That was when the pain rolled over him like he'd been set ablaze. His lungs felt like they'd breathed in a toxic gas and his head was spinning. The ground seemed to rise above him and his feet exploded from his boots. Were those talons on his toes? Why did he have a tail all of a sudden?
As the shifting Rathian girl's transformation accelerated to full on feral, she clutched her wing-like claws to her head and tried to struggle with new maternal thoughts. These eggs had no mother to protect them and they would fall prey to would-be predators? Why was she thinking of stealing them? They needed protection. It wasn't what she was here for...or was she?
The Rathian, upon finishing her changes, still remembered the farcaster. She warped back to the base camp and proceeded to destroy it with extreme prejudice before flying back to her nest, curling up next to the nest. She wouldn't let anything happen to her babies.
Lamia surveyed her work from afar and grinned in satisfaction. He finally got what he wanted in the end and she got something out of it too. P.E.R.M. would be pleased.
