One of the services Monoceros Media provides is laser cutting/engraving. I work in acrylic, wood, plastics and other materials.
I work with artists to help make their ideas into tangible items. In this example my friend Cooner wanted to make acrylic badges for Anthrocon 2009. They are cut out of 1/4" clear stock.

I'm a service provider, not an artist myself. :) I supply artists who are making/selling them as commissions, products, or whatever. I take their art and do the set up and manufacture of the physical parts.
And yes, 1/4 acrylic with a deep etching like that will last a very, very long time!
