Thomas looked around. Although he was the master of the castle, there were still unknown areas and secrets to him. In his defense, he was just appointed to his position a few days ago, in a role where he was expected to either fail or just disappear with the passage of time, which were perspectives that did not fill him with glee.
Although he was a timid young man, he was able to create strong bonds with people who lived there before he arrived, a small community that was there to look after each other and didn't expand for a long time.
However, even with such an aptitude, there were mysteries that some of the inhabitants seemed to know about as they wandered in the castle ruins that were beyond his reach, making him wonder if this would be the case for the whole time he would be here.
Like Eike, and his tendency to hide in the deepest level of the fortress, or Juan, who could fall asleep anywhere and anytime, even in the heat of battle. But the most intriguing was Sebastien. A quiet fellow, always nervous, he acted strange when he had the impression that no one was looking...
Curious, Thomas decided to follow him during one of his adventures to see what the untold purpose of these quests could be, not that it mattered all that much to him. It wasn't his intention to stop him from doing so, after all...
However, as he advanced into new areas of the castle, he encountered his toughest challenge, a nemesis that he never thought that he would or could encounter in such a remote place.
A ladder. It had to be a ladder, a foe as tricky as it was deadly. If this was just a mere routine exploration, then he would have turned around. But today was different; he couldn't flee from it anymore...
Determined, he started climbing it, for he couldn't let it triumph once again. The bars were slippery and the ground started getting further aways from his gaze as he started climbing the first steps.
His head spinning, he tried to hold to the bars but was unable to do so. As he fell to the ground, his head hit the stone floor, making him realize that the ladder had once again been victorous in their eternal struggle.
As everything went dark, he heard footsteps approaching. Would this be the end of the journey that had awaited him? Or would it be something else? He just hoped that someone would take over his affairs...
''Thomas, are you alright?'' asked Cecile, standing guard near the door of his room. She was probably the one who brought him there while he was unconscious, which warmed his heart.
''It seems like I am. How long have I been here?'' he asked, a bit afraid to hear the answer, since he wasn't sure that he'd escaped this situation unscathed. But he needed to know, because it would surely torment him later on...
''Just a few hours, nothing to worry about. Now get some rest, because I have the impression that we will need you soon,'' she told him before closing the door, making sure that no one else was coming to disturb him.
Cecile was right. Although Sebastien's behavior was a mystery, there was more important business to deal with than this improvised crime-solving case that was leading him nowhere, except in the hands of his enemies...
Sebastien looked around, making sure that no one was in the area. Satisfied with the situation, he removed his wig and the pillows that he was hiding under his shirt, on his stomach.
Passing a hand on his short, black hair, he grinned as he opened a chest, which contained what seemed to be an old uniform. ''One day, I'll be the Furher again... one day,'' laughed Sebastien as he replaced his wig and pillows before leaving again...
