This is a concept for a Melding version of the mosquito creature for the game Firefall. The Melding was something which would mutate and corrupt lifeforms and landmasses.
There were variations of the mosquito such as a rocky one ( http://jayaxer.deviantart.com/art/F.....cept-347782376 ), a firefly-esque one, but in this case the goal was to make something bloated and dark that fit with some of the existing designs. I gave it a dark shell that looked as though it was separated by its bloating flesh and a face in line with the designs of the melding race called the "Chosen".
Instead of wings it has glowing ethereal tentacles which were designs to be moving slowly as it floated along after the player.

Yup! They were supposed to have some minor design elements in common with the Chosen, though their size and movement prevented that from being visible in game so much. Originally their tendrils were to be slowly flowing but I beleive for a long time they were on the original rig of the mosquito so they flapped around ridiculously instead.
