Nah, it only covers about half of his face. What it is supposed to go over though is his left nostril.

Yeah, I thought it went left. :o I'm not so sure now, cuz I've seen it both ways in official artworks. o3o See what I mean?

Also, the actual Mario wiki says "another unique feature of Morton's is the large, star-shaped birthmark on the left side of his face (similar to the makeup worn by Paul Stanley of KISS fame, except the mark is on the left side of Morton's face, not right)".
