Pfft, that's me being contentious. I should probably apologise. :)
I acknowledge that for most, blue mucous membranes (or lime green or whatever) are just a neat visual distinction. But I can't ever look at them without interpreting them as indicating the colour of the creature's blood, whereupon I think 'huh...' about their biochemistry.
