My homage character to Dave Stevens's The Rocketeer with a bit of a nod to Commander Cody from the 'Rader Men from the Moon' serial movie series. Iron Eagle falls into that category of crackpot billionaire who took his family's ironworks business and transformed it into a tech giant, especially in the aerospace field. Frustrated at not being allowed to try out for the astronaut program, he focused his energies on atmospheric flight but found flying aircraft too limiting. He actually wanted to experience flight for himself and eventually created the winged jet pack he now wears.
