Another day in the life of a mercenary. Risk your life for money and it doesn't matter to your employer whether you succeed or fail unless they pay up front...
This mission was more straightforward than most. A little 'exchange' was taking place in an old multi-story car park, and a third party had hired Kh'tall to get hold of the item in question.
Hidden away in the shadows, she watched as, right on time, two different cars came up, their passengers getting out; smartly-dressed humans clearly on business. Two of them were the leaders, flanked by bodyguards. It wouldn't be easy, but it rarely ever was. She drew her pistols, peering out from around a pillar.
One of the leaders had a briefcase; Kh'tall's target. Just as he was about to hand it off after a moment of conversation, two shots rang out; one striking his chest and the other his head, sending him crumpling to the ground. Before the others could react, Kh'tall stood tall and unleashed a hail of bullets from her pistols, sending a bodyguard crumpling to the floor without even having drawn his gun.
The others were alert now, though. As the remaining leader ducked back inside his car for cover, the three guards pulled out small semiautomatics and opened fire. Bullets bounced off the walls, the pillar Kh'tall was taking cover behind, and her scales, her natural armor and her equipment saving her from the poorly-aimed shots.
And then she sprung back into action, plugging a pair of bullets through the heart of one guard, then another, before ducking back behind the conrete pillar. Lightning fast, she reached down and grabbed a fresh pair of box magazines, slamming them into her pistols as bits of dust and concrete exploded from the pillar as it was riddled with bullets.
She didn't need all six shots, but she took them anyway as she stepped back around the corner, levelling her guns and filling the last guard with metal slugs. He fell to the ground as her spent ammo cases bounced off the floor, two little wisps of smoke issuing from the ends of her guns. But she wasn't done yet.
Striding over to the car, the other leader or whoever he was was cowering in the back seat. "No, please-" he started as he looked up and saw her, but he was cut off as she pointed her right gun at his head and fired the single shot.
Turning about on her heels, she holstered her guns - "Wrath" in her right hand, "Revenge" in her left - and picked up the briefcase from where it had fallen, striding off to the stairs, her cloak flowing out behind her.
Mission accomplished.
Part of a mini-series I'm doing of Kh'tall in her various incarnations across times and settings :B Also an experiment with a new way of drawing anthromorphic characters. (details to come in a scrap upload)
This one is the reborn Modern Kh'tall from a modern-era Dungeons and Dragons campaign. The original Kh'tall really, really sucked because I didn't build her so I had no idea what most of her abilities did and she was generally useless on the whole. So I rebuilt her to see if my experience makes a difference, and she's pretty deadly now.
Well, certainly to humans, at least. Ranger levels give her Favoured Enemy bonuses (bonus to damage against races of her choice), and she has Tactical Advantage (adds Favoured Enemy bonuses to hit rolls as well), along with the whole set of Two-Weapon Fighting feats combined with not one but TWO +2 Glock 20 pistols of Human Bane (+2 to hit, +2d6 damage each). And a really awesome feat I found in the Modern feats list called Heroic Surge that lets you take one extra action a certain number of times a day (at most one a round).
So that's potentially 8 shots in one round at +30 to hit for the first four, +25 for the next two and +20 for the last two, all at 4d6+11 damage. Combine that with Quick Reload (reloading is a free action for this type of gun) and Kh'tall is a movie action hero or something.
And yes she's not wearing her whole set of equipment in the picture because I was having a hard enough time drawing what's already there. She's only wearing the gloves because I didn't want to draw her claws (and I've drawn the gloves before).
Her whole set of visible equipment (in case anyone wants to draw her |3) is:
- Gloves, cloak
- 2x Hip holster
- 2x Glock 20 pistol
- Bracers of armor
- 2x Dagger (Two-Weapon Fighting is good for more than just guns)
- Remington 700 Hunting Rifle (think of the one from Left 4 Dead)
