Two reasons: 1. The victims were conspiring to take control of Mastron Technologies. 2. Walter wanted Vance to marry Diana, which would consolidate the ties between his company and Outrage (the crime syndicate Vance secretly controlled), but the man Diana preferred stood in the way. (Vance was Walter's co-murderer, by the way.)
