Minor point...

When you donate blood, the receiving bag is below the level of the bed, not above. You'd have to have some pretty hefty blood pressure to push the blood up that tube into the bag.

I cant donate blood due to a massive nose bleed i had a few years ago, went to ER for it and the first thing they did was try to get a blood sample after a huge amount of blood being lost (a least 3 oz before ER and a washcloth FULL at the ER) and passed out for 2 or 3 minutes. I woke up and they shoo'ed me away saying my sinuses were just so dry that the blood just broke through.

Just remind him about the cookie he gets when he's finished~
