Well, on a historical basis 2 centuries is not much. And since the Empire in your Story is modelled after the roman empire, it´s highly possible that some human aristocrats might still consider him less cultured souly for the reason of him being non-human.

The shift from Polytheism to Monotheism (hastened along by an invasion scare about two centuries previous), elevated the status of Lupines from "monsters" to "People" in the eyes of God, so while there is probably quite a bit of casual racism in society, on the other hand, certain members of the elite grew up with Lupine nannies, so have a certain affection for them. The culture is more Byzantine, than Western Rome at this point, and possibly a bit more multicultural.
