...they want half their logo back.
This one goes out to everyone less than thrilled by Patreon's redesign.

Reminds me of the USPS reflagging a number of years ago, when they changed their eagle. Rather than just issue new marking as a sticker or repaint the trucks as they came in for servicing, or Gahd forbid, wait until the individual jeeps and trucks were obsolete and sold, they insisted that every Post Orifice vehicle be replaced immediately at taxpayer expense. Hey, Federal Express -- I mean, FedEx -- still had the old trucks in their fleets (and allegedly frightening Mexicans) until a few years ago.
'S'funny, Jack Conte, the guy who started Patreon, is part of the singing duet Pomplamoose. I started listening to their music years ago because they did a clever commercial for Hyundai, and watching their videos because Jack's wife Nataly is so damned cute!

In 1973, the word had given the company immediate equity, an official alternative to the post office, but today it was more often associated with being bureaucratic and slow. In Latin American countries, it conjured images of the federales, and in some other parts of the world, people had trouble pronouncing Federal Express.--Susan Westcott Alessandri, Visual Identity: Promoting and Protecting the Public Face of an Organization
You can't make this stuff up. Sure glad I took that Management course, too.

Willful ignorance of local languages and customs has cost many manufacturers overseas sales. By way of example, Oreo cookies in foreign markets come in green tea, blueberry and orange ice cream and other flavors undreamt in the USA.
That's true, but Federal Express made the name change to FedEx in 2000, not 1973 -- the year Federal Express began operations.

And that still looks better than the stick and ball logo. That isn't a logo, that's an april fool's prank. The ball is misplaced, too large, too far separate, and if it's supposed to be two parts of the same letter then why are the two halves DIFFERENT COLORS.
And I sorta liked the orange logo, after awhile it reminded me of those old wood-panel 70s nintendo mockups or whatever they were. Those "the games of today, if they were made in 1975."

I hate the new page design. After digging around for an hour unable to find the feedback button, I was forced to hunt thru my email for an old support ticket, and send my complaints as a response to that. I fail to see the point in removing all the onscreen buttons and controls and stuffing them in a sidebar, if that just leaves a huge white gap where they used to be. The POST button used to be right there, clearly labeled and bright orange. Now it's been shoved out of the way as it were some secondary function nobody ever really used. It's like no thought went into how people even use the site. Between the pointless page redesign and the logo...
I hate to say it, but I'm worried about the future of Patreon, now.
Maybe this boat isn't sinking, but it's hard to tell from way back here, and there seems to be a lot of deck chair rearranging in progress.
By the way, they sent me back a form letter / advertisement which basically ignored everything I had to say. Also not a good sign.
