A commission for Mark McCloud, of himself sitting on the hood of his car at the gas station.
I love doing pieces like this - pieces that are about real life - about ordinary places and things we can recognize and relate to. I guess he must be enjoying the recent fuel price drop =). I am, too! Can you guess what gas station he is at? Or even better - what state he lives in?
Done in Microns, watercolors and acrylic paints on 9"x12" illustration board.

Ill give you a hint on the state - look at the license plates - California license plates start with a number, not a letter, and have seven digits. These have six =) Its probably really hard to see the license plate on the pickup in the parking lot - but that one is a better indication of the state.
Yeah, I think thats it - I know its a Chevy station wagon - I was given a bunch of pictures of it, but I couldn't read the model name on the side of the car in the pictures.
I think its pretty unique that someone wanted their actual car drawn, not a flashy or fancy one =).
I'm really flattered that you recognized it - that means I did a better job on it than I thought =)

All the Shell stations I've been to in Virginia have a white and yellow color theme. Good, clean, quality, consistent gas at a Shell sation (more important in the 93 octane), and every Sheetz is definitely that all-over red. Great services, though. Clean, clean bathrooms, well-priced gas, good selection of stuff in the station, and always has a window washer/srcubber/squeegee available.
On a side note, 7-11 in VA doesn't seem to have gas stations, but they're partnered with Citgo as the 'store' part that goes with the gas.

As someone who has done technical and architectural art for over 20 years. ( When I'm not doing anything fur related.) This is quite good, most furry artists have a lot of trouble doing something real and accurate such as this. I don't do vehicles regularly, mostly buildings and trains, bridges.
The car is quite well done, the truck in the background looks perfectly random. Store detailing and gas pumps, down to the credit card slot on the far pumps. of course the fur is looking pretty good too, the detailing in the fur and wrinkles in the pants work well.
For effort and realism I will give this a paws up and a favorite.

That looks really dangerous for a furry. If a furry character store more static electricity and get out of his/her car to refuel it and touching the hand of the nozel when going to pour the fuel in and theres a spark of static, the fuel will egnite.
Saw a mythbusters episode about that.

Well, Contests aside. You did a marvelous job on this image. You're getting better and better at rendering mechanical forms and artificial surfaces too. I was really impressed with the amout of detail you had in this picture. I'd almost believe one day to pull into the '76 near my apartment and see "Mr. Foxy" filling up his "Toy-Otter."
I just love all the little details in this, you could stare for hours at it and still find new things. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, it does distract from the main character, but it also makes him blend into the scene. And I suppose in real life none of us stand out a lot when gettin gas (unless you're a rainbow glitter goth... then you may stand out)
I've been hoping to try my hand at a big piece like this, but I lack a desk to work at. You're a great inspiration, really. I trully want to get back into traditional like I used to do in high school and college.. it would be such a great thing to do.
Keep up the good work, you'll never fail to give my drive for perfection a big boost in the rear end!

You are among the highest rank of artists in the fandom, I really mean it. Your artwork just gets better and better and you just have so much skill!
At the risk of this coming across the wrong way, let me just say this: The only reason I'm saying what I'm going to say is because there is one and only one flaw I ever see in your artwork, and without this flaw your art would be 100% perfect.
Regardless of species,The necks are almost always too long, and don't reflect the postion of the head. It's like you made the neck the correct medical length, but instead of the top vertebra being *in* the muscles of the head, the head is just on top of it, rather like the difference between balancing a melon on a pole and pushing the melon partway down the pole.
Please don't be upset, it just bothers me to see flaws in the artwork since you are like the nicest, best artist out there.

Thanks very much =D
And I do very much appreciate the bit of critique there - I do see what you mean, and I think that error should be easy enough to fix in later pieces =).
I'm not upset at all, I agree that if there is something wrong in my work, that seems easy enough to correct, I should correct it =D. And I hate it when I'm the only one who doesn't notice the things that are wrong with it and nobody tells me.. LOL ^.^

Well I'm glad that you're not upset and that I could help. It's probably just something you never noticed you were doing, rather than struggling with it, so yeah, you'll definitely be able to fix it^^
Many times on sites like this people never crit, and instead go on about how they love whatever pic it is, even if it is artistically/anatomically AWFUL. However, with your work this is not the case, I can understand people not seeing the one flaw when there are 300 fantastic things about each picture. The only reason I noticed is that It stood out 'cuz I'm anal like that :p. Anywho, glad to help!

I have to agree with you that the reality and detail in this pic is what makes it amazing. I think mundane pieces that take you in and feature furs really appeal to me cos it is just how it would be if furries were around us all the time, and thats what makes it magical.
I loves it!
Im new to FA but I am so glad you are here, I always like seeing bits of your work when I can. Ive one seen it scattered over the net before..

I figured the location was nice enough to snapshot since I passed through the vicinity regularly back then. I still keep an eye on it because of the civic center across the road (and the mall a short highway hop away). The poor Chevy bought the farm though. I miss that wagon.
