Hamha Everyone:
Remember how I was experimenting with music uploads and conversions last week? Well, this is the culmination of that work.
What a Car[/i] is a parody of OMC's How Bizarre[/b] that I wrote in homage to my friend's first car that I used to ride around in. It was a 1982, Plymouth Reliant (K Car) that we lovingly named "The Blue Torpedo" after the uber cool vehicle found in the classic, B movie The Stoned Age[/i]
Many of the stories I wrote back in High School were based after this car. Heck, some of the projects I did for my 11th grade, honors English revolved around portrayals of this delightful vehicle. Mind you, my friend who drove this car never liked it being called "The Blue Torpedo" nor did he like how many people would know of his car thanks to my stories and grand bravado I would share with anyone who would listen to it. :)
Now, for some fun explanations.
1: The voice singing the song is my screen reader program, JAWS. The voice you hear is the one I typically listen to when I have large amounts of reading to do, or my eye isn't feeling up to looking at the monitor.
2: The introduction is skippy, because JAWS reads nearly everything it encounters. I could edit the first couple of seconds out, but I figured it kept the integrity of the work to leave the JAWS effect in it.
3: The first four lines were a chant he would unleash on our typical trips home from school.
4: Sheetz is a chain of gas stations found primarily in the Northeastern United States. They make very delicous subs, hot dogs, and coffees, too!
5: The car was a very typical, first car for anyone that required a little love to start. Therefore, to get it to start, one would have to pump the gas repeatadly to get things going. The doors also didn't quite lock right and you needed to jiggle the lock multiple times before the bugger would let loose.
6: The character Dan is a representation of the friend who drove the car. Based on some of the lyrics, I doubt anyone would be surprised to know he was quite the grand DM in D&D for his whimsical notions of taking souls and laughing maniacaly.
TOOLS USED:
1: JAWS Professional 9.15
2: Sound Recorder
3: Windows Media Player
4: Microsoft Word
5: How Bizarre by OMC
6: How Bizarre (Karaoke) by Karaoke - Ameritz
7: MediaCoder 0.6.1.4
I hope you enjoy this little forray into the music world. It took a lot of patience, but will be worth it once I mix it with the rest of the tracks and clips I have acquired. The true end result will be a present that my friend will not soon forget for his 30th birthday. Oopa!

Wow.
The JAWS reader voice is actually oddly soothing-- I used to be a big dictionkaraeoke fan back in the day, and working on an aborted Newgrounds Clock Crew animation, I've even wrung emotion out of Micosoft Sam voice codecs and the like.
Though to be honest, I'd like to -hear you- sing sometime, too!

*Nods happily* The voice is quite soothing, isn't it? Actually, the standard voice set isn't very good on the ears at all. However, with one of my JAWS discs, I got an upgrade patch that provided me something called SAPI 5. It slows down the reading speed, and takes up more resources, but is a lot more pleasant to listen to. :)
Me? Sing? Kazootles! I don't know. *cush-cush* My wife has determined I am quite tone deaf and, because of that, I fear for any listener to hear me sing. I talk well, but sing, uh, hmm. *cush-cush* *cush-cush*

My very first girlfriend was convinced she was tone-deaf. All she needed was a lot of practice.
If it'd make you feel better you could send it to just me. Whatever song you sing, it'd be an interesting collab.
Besides, I think that my voice has gotten pretty rusty, but that doesn't stop ME from uploading songs. ;)

You make a good point, Toroth. Perhaps, if I can get the microphone working here, I will give singing a shot. :) *Hugs*
The thing I enjoy about being on here the most is having great friends like you who are ever encouraging me to try and experiment with concepts I may never be brave enough to do myself. My wife, of course, encourages me TONS. However, getting outside encouragement only further makes me really want to go out there and be all I can be no matter what. Oopa!
Thanks, Toroth. *Big Hug*

Haha, wow, the voice is a real step up from the usual reading program voice things. :3 I wonder how ya timed the readings for each part. Maybe you just had to click or select and it simply goes at it?
It's neat that you were able to capture the sounds from your reader dude and find a karaoke version of the song to play along with it. :3
Very creative and experimental. :D Hopefully ya had fun with it!
I was gonna say you should sing too! But I can relate to not having a singer's voice at all... but I guess that just means we can focus more on our other arts. :3

Yeah, the fine folks at Freedom Scientific, the makers of JAWS, included a special, enhancer disc with one of my upgrades that gave me that amazing upgrade. The fact I was able to put a bit of a British accent on it was just a total win all around. :)
Oh, the timing for doing this was actually most tricky. See, as I don't have sound equipment or proper tools, I actually had to pull the plug out of my speakers and plug it into the back of my computer. This rendered me unable to hear a thing I was doing.
Being deaf, I had to time the following sequence in proper order.
1: Hit "Record" on the Sound Recorder
2: Hit "Play" on the CD Player I had resting on my lap that had the actual song waiting on pause
3: Hit "Play" on Windows Media Player to start the Karaoke version of How Bizarre[/i]
4: Click on the Word Document for "What a Car"
5: Click at the top, blank line of the Word document and hit the Up arrow to keep JAWS from reading too much of the window I was in.
6: As each line was sang by OMC, I hit the down arrow in accordance until the song was over
7: Quickly open Sound Recorder and hit "Stop"
Good times! :)
As for singing, Toroth makes a good point. After all, part of the fun on being here with immensely creative sorts like yourself is being able to feel free and experimental with all aspects of art. Perhaps, in time, I will try to wing a song off. I'll ask my wife what she thinks I should try and go with that. :)

Britishness is cool indeed. *sips at some tea, too* I just love their name for shrimp. I learned it from watching Gordon Ramsey on Hell's Kitchen and that is that they call them prawns. Such a fun word that is. We actually named our GPS "Prawns" in honor of such a unique name. :)
Gabby-Gabby-Gaboo! *Hugs* When you recall, please let me know so I know what British voice they modelled my SAPI 5 upgrade after. I never liked hearing "American English" over the screen reader and always prefer using the "British" option when I use JAWS. Certain things just sound, well, better. :)
I can't believe I never favorited this (I thought I had).
PROBLEM SOLVED.

<LoL!> Exactly! Though, I'm certain CHICAGO-Lollie did it far more professionally then I did. <LoL!> It was quite a scene to behold making this work. However, the final product was worth it as it was a long overdue gift to my friend to whom his first car inspired this oh-so special remake. :)
<LoL!> Most who listened to it really got into the "Ooh, baby! Oh, baby!" parts. :)
If I may, this was actually done using the screen reading program JAWS. It's a prog I pull up as needed to help save my eye the strain of trying to read due to the ocular condition I was born with. Though, as you can see, the program can be used for fun purposes as well. :)

it's cool, I was technically in error :p I assumed from the relative naturalism of the voice that it might be built up using pre-recorded samples, and that hence the continuity announcer was hired for the job. I've been looking at the JAWS website since then though and it doesn't suggest the use of premade recordings (and I guess in retrospect that even using mp3 sources it would be a drain on system-space), so there you go, heh
