Coping With Limitations: Owning Your Cutie Mark
By: Matthew S. Palumbo / Yosh E. O’Ducky
Thanks to Mary Rhodes our official title went from Coping With Disabilities to Coping With Limitations. Limitations was a term that the team largely agreed would attract more people to the cause as most don’t positively associate with ‘disability’ where we all can agree we have a limitation.
The presenters this year were myself, Amanda Robinson, Ari Kunofsky, and Duskie. I took on the topic of “Victim Stance”, which is where you are negatively motivated as a result of how life has treated you, while Amanda, Ari, and Duskie talked about the pros and cons of creating original characters, OCs, along with “Coping Through Cosplay”.
Although the overall theme of the panel did not match between my part and those of the rest of the team, I firmly believe everything discussed is relevant towards learning how to build self-esteem, confidence, and know how to properly work through your feelings.
We also had Asia Martinez do art for us again on behalf of the presentation. On one side is Ari’s original characters while the other side illustrates canon and fan characters. The purpose is to go with our theme of how you don’t have to be like everyone else to get along with others. Your OC is a way to interact with the world around you in a less frightening way. However, as Ari and Duskie discuss, it is important to know the difference between using an OC to cope with life and escape from it. Coping is good while escaping will not aid you in moving positively forward.
There are three videos worth sharing for our 2016 presentation. We’ll start with the panel itself.

I was also personally asked to attend a panel to discuss convention accessibility. You can see how it went and what I contributed in the video below.

Lastly is our donation to the BronyCon Charity Auction. We provided information to help it sell better but I don’t think it was properly given to the auctioneer. It still sold for over $120 compared to the $85 I paid to have it done and for my wife, Tina, to frame.

very true words my friend that's how I was when I first made the leap into the brony fandom I wanted to make an OC i was just going to go with the flow and make a pony oc but then i was looking at some of my dad's wolf picks he has on the walls of our home and it just kind of fell into place
And thus your OC was born. It's truly wonderful how we are able to put ourselves into those characters we create. They are then what allow us to befriend others who put parts of themselves into their characters. Thus a chain of helping others feel good about who they are begins and goes on-and-on as we use our OCs to make RL pals. :)
Any news on your "Fallout Equestria" story? I'm always open for an update. :)

I really liked "Legend of Everfree". It's the first MLP: FiM that has Descriptive Audio! I've watched it at least four times and some of the descriptions are really awesome! Moreover is how the friendly narrator that does the descriptions actually calls Derpy by her name! :)
If you have "Legend of Everfree" on Netflix or DVD you should be able to turn on "Descriptive Audio". Trust me in how it is a whole new experience. You also don't need to physically be watching the screen to know what is going on. :)
I've really loved Season 7. I thought the show should have ended by now due to a lack of genuine originality. However Season 7 has given us new characters and back stories in almost every episode! I even, shame on me, cheated and listened to Episode 13. If you don't mind cheating you really should look it up on Daily Motion. It's the William Shatner episode and REALLY gives a lot of back story on the Apples.

Oh... I meant to ask what your OC's name is. *Blush* I keep forgetting. :(

Awesome! When you watch "Legend of Everfree" on your Blu Ray please let me know what you think of the Descriptive Audio.
Some movies have good Descriptive Narrators. Others, well, are a tad lacking.
When I saw last year's reboot of "Ghostbusters" the person doing the descriptive was quite lackluster. They really didn't describe the facial expressions that, according to my wife and son, were why everyone was laughing in it.
"LoE" also has a little girl doing the narration. She sounds very cheerful to do the descriptive. I like having some "umph" when scenes are described. The one for "Guardians of the Galxy Vol. 2" was good but, umm, flat. :) Though he definitely made characters dying seem like it happened every day. :)
