Positive Finality
By: Matthew S. Palumbo / Yosh E. O’Ducky
BronyCon 2016 was to be my final year. Doing the panel was always a massive undertaking in Project Management, Team Building, Promotion, and Fundraising. It also didn’t help I was already thousands of dollars in the hole due to eye appointments and surgeries with even more to come.
So what brings me to do it again? Determination!
When I was given the news I would never see again on December 15th, 2016 I felt a lot of emotions. Relief for no longer needing so many appointments, surgeries, medications, etc. Joy for knowing I could genuinely approach an employer without the burden of wasting all my vacation and sick leave to attend appointments, and sadness as those things I most loved would now need to be enjoyed in non-visual ways.
As March 2017 rolled around I came to realize how important it was that I find ways to enjoy what I loved despite vision no longer being able to play any part in it. The first thing I did was sell my MLP: FiM DVD collection and video games to buy boxes of the latest MLP: FiM set by Enterplay LLC. I knew I would not be able to see the cards but my son and wife could help me continue collecting the core set as I had since coming out of my 7 month recovery between 2012 and 2013.
So, if anyone is wondering, my wife, Tina, is the one that supported me to keep with Pony after I recovered from all the ocular ups-and-downs I went through between August 2012 and March 2013.
I then thought on how Pony had played a part in my accepting total blindness thanks to ‘Snowdrop’. Then there was the support I got from BronyCon and its attendants from 2013 to 2016. Everyone treated me like I didn’t have a disability. I was welcomed and what my team and I had to share was always appreciated as our crowd of attendents to our panels always grew with each year.
So that sealed it. I got in contact with Ari Kunofsky, Benjamin Platt, and newcomer to the team, Wishy Wisp, and submitted for Entry 4 in the Coping With Limitations Through Pony series. We were officially accepted to return in early May and are working hard to ensure this truly final presentation is the best we’ve ever done.
This trip to BronyCon has a lot of major significance to me. It will be going with absolutely no sight at all. I had been losing my sight year-after-year but now I have none. Going not only confirms to me how I can still enjoy life despite being totally blind, but also helps to illustrate how much I do stand by how a disability, special need, limitation, etc. should not keep you from living life.
This is the final entry in “The History of CWLTP” series. Look for posts regarding the 2017 presentation to start in July 2017 and run through August. I thank you for your time and support as I’ve continued to do all I can to regain gainful employment, remain positive, move on with my life, and advocate on behalf of all who, like me, are more than their conditions.

Hooray! *Flaps about all giddy* That is a wonderful achievement! I'm sure you felt a surge of self-confidence upon completing the task. I'm also sure you now know there are even more exciting things you will be able to work yourself towards doing to show yourself and others just how independent and awesome you can be. :)
