This is a piece that originated in the west coast of Ireland, though the melody is traditional, the lyrics were written by Padraic Colum, and I first became familiar with this song when one of the singers from an all-female group at a local renfair asked if she could sing this with the group I played fiddle with at the time.
It's a gorgeous, well-known piece, and after finding a music library that features a vocalist singing a nice collection of Celtic folk tunes, I was very pleased to find this song included, so here's a little arrangement I've put together over the past month.
Vocals courtesy of 8dio's Barbary Forgotten Voices.
