The wolf knew Immy was getting into soul manipulation, and thought it'd be sort of relaxing to have a mild out-of-body experience. The raptor was pretty perplexed by what he saw, though. Despite having taken several souls as glowing, lantern-like trophies for his house, he had never seen two spirits come out of the same person like this. Both different, yet intertwined. It wasn't possession, it wasn't a parasite... what was it?
When originally inking this picture, I tried to make the soul stuff look like ectoplasm seen in classical spirit photography, but it wound up looking super gross and inedible. So, instead, I tried to make it look like sticky, sugary salt water taffy. I'll keep experimenting to see how I like my souls to look. Gotta look tasty!
And it does look tasty... I'm sure the wolf won't mind me taking a few tasting samples, but it'll be hard to resist not just swallowing it all down...

Oh! Hah. Right.
No, I think the story is that the wolf has a second spirit inside him and doesn't even know about it, as shown here:

It has a related story if you're super interested, but I haven't read it.

Yeah, the winged wolf here is my character Damian. Immelman gave a good link to give the gist of who he is, but you can read here ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15525076/ ) to get a more detailed explanation.
Would they? The "core" is the essense of the person and represents their unbroken line of perspective. Its who "you" are, and it's what Immy eats to fully steal someone's mind. If the wolf has two seperate conciousnesses, he'd likely have two cores - twin "egos".
Perhaps. It's a matter of perspective at this point I believe. My view on the matter, at least conceptually, is that while they have two separate minds. they effectively share a soul. They are quite literally inseparable, insomuch as any more of true separation would be the end of them both. So if there are indeed two cores, as you describe, then the two would be attached in some manner, unless I misunderstand some part of the nature of these cores.
Heh heh, The little setup description sounds spot on for this, for sure. And yeah, I must agree, your original look you had going for the "soul stuff" doesn't look terribly appealing. I much prefer what you've got here as well, though I can see the original work working for a more monster/horror based setup.
