Elizabeth castle through the fog a few days back.
The castle was built at the end of the 1500's on a tidal island in St. Aubins bay on the island of Jersey to defend the bay against possible French invasion, though this never occurred.
The castle was besieged and bombarded with mortars during the English civil war after Charles II stayed in the castle. The siege lasted 7 weeks.
The last military use the castle saw was during the second world war when occupying German forces took control of the castle and modified it with bunkers and gun emplacements.
