When I first saw the Recon I thought it was ugly. But when I bought one I changed my tune. The Recon is basically a bolt-action Maverick with attachments that can be arranged in any number of ways. Its a custom blaster. And it pulls it off well. One nice feature is a targeting light. Just an red LED torch but its cool nonetheless. Loading a clip is easier than the Longshot and they even have ambidextrous clip eject buttons! The only drawback is the barrel. Because its not rifled, it actually absorbs some of the dart's energy and often causes it to tumble when it leaves the mussel, reducing accuracy and range. Still, in close combat, or as a pistol, the Recon is a fun weapon.

Agreed, and you still have a tactical rail on the pistol unit to use for a reflex sight or light. The recon comes with a flip up sight that has an adjusting ring on it. My first mod was to remove the ring; it gets in the way. Now its a ballistic reflex sight.
The barrel can be swapped between the Recon and the Longshot, which opens up some interesting gun combinations.

I dont get why people dislike the Reverse plunger design. Honestly, I find it a LOT easier to mod than alot of other nerf guns. Sure, its not as powerful, but it still fires well over 50 on the Recon, LongStrike (WITH its attachment, unlike the Longshot and its useless attachment) and the Raider, though I cant vouch for sure, since I dont have that one.
Besides, the Reverse Plunger design is the response Hasbro/Nerf has TO MODDERS about modding their guns, anyways. They KNOW they mod them, so they want to make them not only LESS powerful after being modded, but a little more accessable for modding....Some, at least (I'm looking at you, Deploy.)

I'm not sure either. And I don't think its Hasbro trying to please the modders. Since the recon, every large Nerf gun has been not just a reverse-plunger system but the SAME reverse-plunger system. The Recon, Raider and Longstrike are literally all the same internal components. Its just saving manufacturing costs.
Generally, any Nerf gun with a barrel has reduced accuracy because none of them have proper rifling.
