So, I'd been thinking of getting another 'bikini' commission from
rjbartrop, but then I saw that his latest monthly theme was 'Oh Canids, Eh?' in reference to Canada's 150th anniversary. And, well, I did have a canine character I hadn't had drawn before...
Aleph here actually started off as a bit of a mad scientist. Not a 'take over the world' or 'fools, I'll show them all' sort so much, but definitely tended to attract superheroic attention when any of her projects malfunctioned. So she kept getting distracted from her research.
Well, as a combination of one such project not quite turning out the way she expected, interaction with someone who arrived from another dimension, and the interruption of someone who came to 'shut her down' before she'd even really finished yet, she discovered that her equipment was capable of transferring superpowers from one person to another. She used it. Things... got out of hand rather rapidly after that. Especially when one of the old school supervillains who actually WAS one of the 'take over the world' type of mad scientists managed to tap into some of the energy flying around and make himself more powerful as well.
Now she's pretty much the most powerful person on the planet who doesn't qualify as a cosmic power, and capable of beating a lot of gods one on one, and the only one really capable of taking on the older supervillain who stole some of her equipment, making her something of a superhero by default. She calls herself 'Aleph' because Alpha was way too stereotypical, and because Aleph-Null is another name for infinity (hence the symbol on her chest). She's capable of almost anything, though focuses on electrical powers mostly to be able to really be good at something before expanding out from there.
Between fighting off a nearly cosmic-level villain as well as numerous agencies trying to fill the void, taking on various stuff left behind that nobody else can handle, dealing with the interest of multiple deities, juggling international politics, and trying to fix her (understandably) bad PR... she's now even more distracted from her research than ever, and has been known to grumble about this.
