When I started playing Pokémon Sun, I decided to do a "Let's Fic" on my Tumblr account, where I would write and post a fanfic about the game "in real time" as I played it. It was kind of a hassle and slowed my progress way down, so I stopped. It hasn't kept me from taking my sweet time with this game, which may or may not be a bad habit, and I only just got to the part of the game detailed in the fic today. It doesn't strike me as the most effective way to "Ride" a Machamp, and I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this joke. Then again, if you're the same age as the game's protagonist, you probably don't get the reference.

The reason my character's dad is in the fic is because I wasn't sure if I wanted to write the Let's Fic from the perspective of "Me as a Pokémon veteran" or "Me as the main character," so I did both. In fact, both characters have the same name, but the dad is mostly referred to as "Dad." At least, once novelty of other designations wore off (I had him insist on being referred to as "Doctor" at first). Here, I just needed someone to make the joke, and it sure wasn't going to be Lillie and I doubted Rotom was old enough, either. Of course, I could've just thrown Sun in there, but it's probably funnier if it's her dad
