We have those at some arcades over here in the USA. Mostly higher-end ones, like Dave & Buster's.

Eh, it's just the way things are going. More automation, less physical work. Why constantly empty a bucket filled with coins when you can have those coins be digital? It's similar to why a lot of casinos have gone from having machines that plink out your winnings in coin format to just installing a nice little thermal printer. All you need to fill is paper, and anyone on the staff (that has a license to access video lottery terminals) can do that. No longer a need for one guy to heft a big bucket-o-coins, and no need for another security guy to watch the guy with the pricey bucket. And no need for someone to handle the count of all that change.

...I just got off of work. I'm still in Slot Technician mode. @_@ but yeah. It's just easier and cheaper in the long run on the business to go with the card things.
