It's a hot day today, 108 degrees and only a 10% chance of rain. Children hide indoors, the heat too much for them. The streets almost barren with the exception of a few pan handlers scattered next to highway exits. Haze dances on the asphalt.
"This state is fucking miserable!" A tall blue lynx dragon shouts into the sun.
"There's something you could do to make it better, Raine." I say, ear's perked hope in my eyes.
"There is. But I shouldn't." She replies, "You remember how upset Yuki got at me last time."
"'As elemental beasts descended from honorable clans, we should not be toying with the natural flow,' was it?" Mockingly, I do my best Yuki impression.
Raine snorts out a laugh, "Correct! Looks like you are learning a thing or two from her!"
"I am, however this heat is disgusting. Come, on Raine! It's not like Yuki will know it was you. The weather report said there was at least some chance pf rain."
Her wings twitch, ears folded in deep thought. "I think you make a good point, Felicity." She spreads her wings and with one powerful thrash, she's in the air. As she soars she draws symbols in the sky. Clouds form in clusters and a drop attacks my cheek, then another, and another. Within seconds the sky is pained solid grey and my body is assailed by droplets of water. Raine lands water caressing her hair then dripping off. She grins and one by one people make their way out to play in the cool rain.
Raine's phone rings. she checks it and laughs as she shoves it away. "Looks like we've been busted."
"Who cares, this feels amazing."
I open my chest to the sky. I adore days like these.
