My nine-and-a-half months in the US Army left me feeling like this.

How patriotic. Still, I can feel from the poem that is it told with good heart, there is sincerity in those verses. No warmongering or ill thoughts towards fellow human beings, just the core: "I am ready to defend what I see is right." Although, one could debate if "warrior" and "soldier" are synonyms; A warrior, a professional of war, doesn't care for justice or honor, he's after money, and in battle, survival is his only true goal. In the end, he's nothing but a scavenger and aggressor. A soldier, on the other hand, is a defender of his people. He's the one who will fight to the bitter end, pushed forward by his ideology and love of his country.
I have served my country in military too, and I am a sort of a patriot, but my patriotism is tinted with pacifism. I wish war to nobody. Still, I can get the ideology behind this poem. It's a beautiful idea, but in the end, only an idea. In the battle, we are all equally scared, just trying to do what is excepted... or just survive, at least.
Anyway, very nice little poem, I enjoyed reading this. And it made me to think. Perhaps I should try my chances with poetry too. Good work.
