"As big as she already knew Bartholomew’s castle to be, it was even more foreboding by the light of the full moon. Maneki stared at the structure and could only see it as part of the enemy. This was the enemy’s stronghold. A fortress that she didn’t know how, but would be brought low this eve by the actions she was about to take and the task she was about to get underway. She scaled the walls of the structure with ease. Her enchanted clothes were comfortable, and afforded her a security she regarded like an old friend. If she wasn’t so focused; she might have smiled. She might have even done some celebratory acrobatics at feeling like herself for the first time in what felt like forever. As elated as she felt to be climbing to new heights again, she knew that she couldn’t afford such feelings. She had a task to complete, and according to what she’d heard this morning, it was imperative that she succeed. She didn’t know the specifics of Sly’s plan, but with all the care he’s gone through to make it possible; she had no reason to doubt his words that this would hurt Bartholomew, and that was what she wanted most right now.
She had memorized the map Sly had provided them easily having been here just yesterday. All she had to do was avoid any guards and she would be able to deliver her package. The calico reached the open fourth floor window with ease. Her feline ears twitched as she strained to hear any sounds coming from the room. She heard none and peeked her head over the windowsill. The room was a bathroom. Even with no torch lit in the room; the moonlight coming through the window and her sharp feline eyes allowed her to see easily. There were three bathtubs in the room. “If I was a superstitious person I would take this as a bad omen.” she thought to herself thinking back to the small dressing room she’d entered Sly’s castle from. She moved quickly through the room and pressed her ear against the wooden door. She heard the sound of footsteps passing the door and held her breath in surprise. She could hear the beat of her heart as the footsteps passed the door and stopped. Her eyes grew as two steps brought the sound even closer. “Shit!” she thought to herself as she moved back from the door and hid inside the closest tub to the door. She pulled herself as tightly as she could against the side of the tub as the doorknob shook and the door opened.
Dim light from a single torch softly illuminated part of the room as the guard carrying it moved through it. “I knew that someone was going to leave the window open. Lord Bartholomew is going to have someone’s head one of these days. And not in the good way.” said the male zebra with a light chuckle as he reached the open window. A sudden motion in the corner of his eye caught his attention, and he turned his head to investigate. “Is there someone there?” he asked as he moved over closer to the bathtubs in the room and held his torch up higher to light the area better. The sight of a mouse scurrying from behind one of the tubs made him draw a sigh of relief. “Don’t scare me like that little guy.” he said as he turned back to close the window. “That was close.” thought Maneki to herself outside of the room as she continued on further into the castle."
