I forget who, but someone on Yap or binaries asked about how to draw chainmail. It's been a while, but I found the sketch. This is an old one, never uploaded because of the previous prohibition on humans. It's an old sketch of Magnus, having beaten Asheru to the ground, and being persuaded to halt by the Armsmaster. The character's looks hadn't been set, though you can see what's chain, and what's plate on Magnus's armour. Soft pencil on Paper, 4 or 5 /2000 originally. Scott A. H. Ruggels

I think this is a great example of how much of art an illustration is about fooling people into seeing something that isn't actually there.
I glanced at this image and immediately thought it was chainmail, even though you never drew a single link. That economy of line and understanding how to hint at things in a way that makes the viewer fill in the blanks has always escaped me.
