I kind would like to see a sequel to this, perhaps seeing one of their companions being injured and rescuing them as best as they can despite their friends being 'small and weak' and trying to nurse them to health however they can, while the undercurrent of pain and anxiety over this turn of events and being unsure of this feeling is because their friend won't recognize them, or that they will recognize them.
An interesting take on the monster transformation theme; most genre artists seem permanently fixated on the wrong thing.
Forget the countless details of whatever physical transmogrification took place -- the mental shock that occurs post-TF (where it happens) is forever the more interesting part.
Tone matters, too -- I like how this was just an innocent mistake on the part of the friends, caused by picking something they didn't know they couldn't handle. And that (however small) shard of hope that perhaps this isn't the "bad ending" for the story of the victim.
