I had every intention of getting this done last week, but it was a very tough emotional week for me, coupled with a completely heartless and unnecessary confrontation with someone I considered one of my best friends. This is a drawing for
foxholliday who left us all two years ago.
This past week has been just about the most trying week I've ever had to live through, and it makes me realize just how much the 5th of July must hurt for Sammy's friends... I lost my uncle on the 4th of July this year. A day that for me will forever be impossible to forget.
My uncle was one of the biggest role models I had growing up. My Dad's only brother. Someone who was always around, someone who was always supportive. He was a high school teacher and encouraged both myself and my brother to pursue higher education... He was my math tutor in junior high when I was struggling with algebra. He took the 400-mile trip with me and my Dad when I was scoping out colleges to attend in the Bay Area. He was like me in so many ways. Odd, eccentric, a hipster. marching to the beat of his own drummer. Living alone, isolating himself from people. Even with all that, he spent the last two weeks of his life surrounded by loved ones and close friends who traveled miles to be there. Something I can only wish for in my own life when my time comes.
I will say again what I said two years ago when I drew another piece for Sammy: Tell someone that you appreciate them while you have the fortune to do so.
Adding to that: Tell someone YOU LOVE THEM while you have the fortune to do so. Do it today, do it right now. Do it before you regret not doing so.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your uncle so recently Goldie. that's so heartbreaking to hear & my heart & thoughts are with you. I wish you weren't going through so much right now. :(
Also, could not agree with your sentiment more regarding the present. life may be short but, when lived fully, it doesn't have to be empty <3
This is a wonderful tribute piece btw. I never had the fortune of knowing sammy like so many others did but I've heard nothing but good things about her. I'm sure she would've adored this ;;

She was a friend of mine and Zilch's too. That was hard news to take on that day (which is Zilch's birthday too). We miss her, but looking back on the time we shared always brings a smile, the happy moments and memories we shared. It warms my heart seeing you draw this, it really does!
Sorry for the loss of your uncle, Goldie. We'll keep you and your family in our thoughts.
