Well I think a heavy thing is not that good for a tail based weapon. It may cause a loss of balance and also could cause dislocation of the spine if its swing too hard with out a hit...
Originally first I saw such a thing only in one game: Albion (dos), and in that game the catlike Iiska were limited to daggers only for their "tail weapon slot".
Tho they are a feline like race with a thin tail.

As far as I know (based on my velociraptor derp skeleton), only about a third of the tail from the waist are flexible to all direction, the rest of the tail is made from tube like bones.
Anyways I have a hard time imagine a method to utilize even a blade with such tail structure. Like ok, running with a side tilted tail pointing at neck height is easy, but thinking about a something like spinning and jumping with an intent... -.-
