YEAH. So, it isn't tentacles, ponies, or scaley...just wtf is it.
OH YOU. It was...very random. I had a random thought, and had to do it. I used to LOVE this movie so damn much when I was a kid, and used to watch it all most non-stop. I think I had a thing for the leader whale...shh. Dun say nothing. I was like, what, 7? 8? LOL Anyway, tried to mimic the actual style of the movie with the bitty whales in the corners. My funktastic versions dead center. Ah, I miss these type of movies-back when F.H.E. was still around. There are quite a few movies from that company I wish I could find...and a lot more that I wish I could remember the names. :( The dragon one with the railroad is a big one. URGH.
Ah yeah. If me and my sister aren't the only ones that remember this movie...I will be pleasantly surprised. WHICH is why i'm not saying anything. The answer is sorta in the file name.
Surprise me, ya yokels.
Now back to your normally scheduled program. *flails away*

My dad recorded most of the ones we had, and in turn, they got recorded over or thrown out. Guh. I miss so many of them. I remember way back when Disney (before all this tweens crap) used to show movies like that. Good 'ole days. Oh well, there is Amazon...but I all ways hold on to false hope that maybe one day they will bring a bunch of these movies back out on DvD.
I never caught em on Disney. You're a couple years my senior, so I probably missed that.
Not too long ago a friend bought me a copy of Manx Mouse off of ebay for a dollar, and we watched it on my boyfriend's old vhs player. It was actually pretty awful upon rewatching it.
A sad realization is that all these videos were foreign cartoons released by 4 Kids/ celebrity home entertainment... with a lot of material cut out. So a lot of them don't make much sense. Manx Mouse was originally Japanese, Sampson and Sally is Danish (I think).

Well I don't recall them showing this one on there, but they did show a few of the others that I can't even remember. The Railroad Dragon (I am probably horribly wrong) I think was one of them. UGH I need to watch that too.
AND MANX MOUSE. My sister actually has that...I am going to have to look it over and see how it is or if it puts me into giggle fits as my inner child that sorta is locked up somewhere awakens and reminisces about it. The ghost part when he was singing used to make me laugh so hard.
And true on that about the cutting out parts, but you know, if they released them now, probably half or more of these movies would have been cut up to save the CHILDREN. Blargh. ><;

The ghost part always made me crack up too. That's really a movie moment that stuck with me for years. Also the Manx cat trying to eat Manx mouse, that always disturbed me a little when I was a kid.
And yeah, if they put these films out on dvd now, they'd still be edited like crazy. Unless there was some kind of collector's market (more folks like us) I doubt there'd be complete versions.

Lol, I guess that part at the end didn't phase much. I can't even really recall my reaction to it, which is odd. I did like it though, I mean the whole movie. UGH I really need to rewatch it. XD
And yeah probably so. And it would suck...and its depressing they would do that considering all the crap they have now a days. lol

YAY I KNEW IT I used to have this..I think my mom got rid of it on accident :[
Do you happen to remember a movie called 'Jungle King'? http://www.imdb.com/media/rm281255168/tt1125867

Oh its good. Its actually, despite its cuteness, pretty dark in some places. Like Samson's mom gets killed and they actually show blood. There is quite a bit of death in it too. Back when cartoons weren't held by the restraints they are now. It depresses me. But I recommend it, it is really a good movie.
Yeah, i actually want to see this film now, from what i can tell it looks worth seeking out. And from what you say, it sounds like it might be similar in some ways (dark and depressing) to Plague Dogs.
I was reading reviews on IMDB, and in relevance to what you said, one of the reviewers commented:
"The film is mostly sad (though it has a happy ending), and looking back on it, I think it's not all that suitable for four or five years old, because the theme that is death occurs a couple of times in the film, and that may be scary at times."
That bothers me a little, that whole "there's no such thing as monsters" sheltering of kids mindset that some parents seem to have. It's kind of hypocritical for society to tell children (through parenting) that the world is kind and gentle and that the only pain one will ever have to deal with is banging their knee when they fall off their bike - and then at the same time to tell them that lying is wrong. :P
BUT, the next comment after that one was just the opposite, and i found it refreshing:
"All in all, I think this is a wonderful movie. This is the kind of movie I would want to show my kids, because even if its a little traumatizing, well, so is life. To give your kids only some idealized world through harmless movies with little conflict is much more dangerous, in my opinion."
Right on!
...Anyway, i don't know if you agree with me, but i guess your comment inspired me to quote these people. In any event, thanks for posting this so i (and others too probably) could discover this film!

I agree with your comment. People are too crazy about sheltering their children from the real world, and yet the kids end up knowing about it anyway...
I think its funny how people comment on things like this, the first person's comment...it made me laugh.
I really enjoyed the second one though, because they were right on the dot.
I guess it just shows the huge difference between the times when these kind of movies came out, and the crap they keep spewing now. Its a sad case really.
And PLAGUE DOGS! I remember that. It and Watership Down both I saw when I was younger, and they both left me pretty shaken, but now, they are a couple of my favorite movies. All though Watership Down I prefer a bit more, I watched it quite a few times if I remember correctly even though it scared me.
Samson and Sally has a lot of dark imagery in it, but all in all I wouldn't consider it on par as disturbing as the latter. But still, its themes are pretty dark in some places. Maybe its the animation that put some people off, but I thought it was cute. Heh, Cute things with dark themes. One of my favorite things. >:D

I'm not sure if I know the movie ... I definitely can't remember the title ... is it the one with the whales and the oil spill and they have to like swim under water for a very long time and some of them die or something ... I mean, that's all I remember and I remember being very sad watching it as a child. If I'm totally off, sorry. ^_^;;; Either way, adorable whales!
I do believe you hit the nail on the head. Hehe. And yes, in the long run, it was a pretty depressing movie. ><; But still, it had its nice parts. The oil spill in the beginning when they had to go under it to get away from the whaling ship and one of them couldn't hold his breath. I remember that freaking me out as a kid. ><;
I agree. I think its better to see movies like this now, that leave an impact...then what they keep coming out with. Sign of the times...its quite depressing.
And
linked it down below from youtube. I'm watching it, all though it is in Swedish I believe. I think i'm going to try and get a copy of it via Ebay so I can watch it in English. XD Thus making me have to get a VHS player...here's hoping the damn things don't cost too much anymore though. lol

OMG MY HERO. All though I have no idea What they are saying. I saw it in English. I can say though I like Samson's voice here better then the English one by far. XD
AND OMG DOT AND THE WHALE. We have that still too somewhere. Dot and the Kangaroo used to scare the hell out of me when the Bunyip song came up. I actually watched it on Youtube one day, and all though its really silly looking now, I felt that chill down my spine. Probably that last bit of childhood that still remembers how horrified I was of that monster. XD

I know the cartoon too.
Was AND is my fav+ film.
Sam and Sally.
Sam wanted to visit the old Moby Dick to learn
how he can punch these `little creatures` with his fluke.
Right?
Oh, man. It's a shame, that my VHS recorder died
and I now longer can see this cartoon.
(It destroyed the VHS!)
But many thanks to
confusedkain!
Now I can watch it again (even if it's not german).

Ugh, I hate this movie. So does my sister. It gave us nightmares and angst as kids. To this very day we get chills down our spines when we think of this movie (and not in a good way).
I especially hate the octopus that gets Samson from behind. Scared the hell out of me as a kid.
Ugh, creepy movie.

It's okay, not your fault that I have bad memories that are invoked by this movie. My reaction was amplified due to the fact of having a less enjoyable week ending up with me recovering from a migraine and waking up and see this picture was hardly something I excpected due to the fact that I've never even heard of anyone else who has seen it. So again, it's not your fault. And I need to cut down on coffee and sugar.
Oh God!! I haven't seen that since I was like 8.
Now I'm going to have to relive the old f.h.e. days by digging through my closet boxes.

Ah Ha ha! I bring back the memories with obscurity! I love this movie...and wish I had F.H.E. movies! I remember seeing some at the dollar store once...a long time ago...and am sad I never picked them up. :(

Lol. I didn't even know about its Denmark origins until I read some of the comments and looked it up. I actually watched it back in the Philippines when it was being sent out through F.H.E. The english voice of Samson is very funny compared to the other voice I heard on the youtube video. I think I preferred the not english voice. XD
FLIP FLADEY FLOP FLOODY FLOODY FLEY! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REN6.....eature=related
Holy Frak! I thought this movie was named "A whale of a Tale", maybe that's why I could never find it :(
I remember several parts from this very vividly, even though I was only 6 or 7 years old and saw it just once. No movie I have seen since has left such a lasting impression on me, I can practically replay half the movie in my head (minus the words). From the moment Samson's father showed him the sunken whaling vessel to when he beat the crap out of the orcas at the end, I was hooked. Probably because at that age I already knew terrible things were being done to our seas but never had a way to visualize what was happening until I saw this movie.
I can't stand watching cartoons nowadays, the new ones are either sickeningly sugar-coated or incredibly stupid and unrealistic, terrible animation not withstanding, either (ahem, lilo & stitch, Family Guy, Inuyasha, Dragon Ball...the list goes on). Granted, I probably wouldn't be caught watching Samson & Sally since it's still geared to really young children, but Watership Down? That movie is pure art, why the frack can't they be made like that any more?! :(

Hehe, well, now you'se know the title! Hehe. And yes, It has left a lasting impression on me as well, although mostly for nostalgia reasons. I loved it so when I was younger...and I think also how dark it was. I would watch it again if I could get an english copy. I watched the others, but its a little different JUST a tad, not hearing it like I remember it.
Still, wonderful movie. And yeah, blah on a lot of the cartoons now a days...I mean, there are quite a few in all honesty I can stand-but none I really really enjoy- SAVE maybe one or two. Ahhh...old times, old times...

OMG! I remember this movie; used to rent it out of our libary all the time. The oil spill part, and the whale that freaks out and goes to the surface to breath, but chokes and dies.....*shudders* Scared the shit out of me! I always have an eye open for the old vhs when I go to the Goodwill and flee markets.
Nice pic btw!

You'll be happy to know I just convinced a friend to try uploading their (slightly...erm...low quality...) VHS rip of it to youtube |3
It's just impossible to find otherwise! XD I'm eagerly waiting to see if they'll do it. I wanna watch it now that I'm starting to remember bits and pieces :3.

MY .
GOD.
SO MUCH NOSTALGIC WIN.
I almost cried when I saw this picture. Thank you so much for this flood of memories <33333 This was like the only movie I would ever rent from the video store when I was 3-6. So many amazing memories. I need to watch this movie again. I remember it being somewhat graphics at parts though, but it was an amazing film. God I miss it.

Hehehe! I am glad to have made you happy with it! :D And yeees...god I loved it too. I really wish they would re-release a lot of the old movies from back in the day from the FHE company. There was so many, like this one, that I would love to own, not just have them on my computer. I am weird like that i guess, lol. And yes, graphic it was in some places but I mean, that was back in the day when people weren't afraid to show the stuff. They cover it up so much now its depressing. Was a very awesome movie, over all though.
