Trainspotting is an actual thing. There are these people (who prefer to be called "railfans") who make a hobby of identifying and photographing various kinds of trains. They're like birdwatchers or car enthusiasts, and in England they're the traditional stereotypical nerd character, also called "anoraks" because of their tendency to wear an anorak, which is a kind of parka or hoodie.
