The Fox and the Hound was released 36 years ago on July 10th, 1981. It was Walt Disney Animation Studios' 24th animated feature based on the novel by Daniel P. Mannix. It was legendary Disney animator and director Wolfgang Reitherman's last film. He had a soft spot for the story - as one of his son's had raised a pet fox!

Many talented animators worked on the movie, including John Lasseter, Brad Bird and Tim Burton, who animated Vixey. Glen Keane animated the climatic bear scene and later created characters like Aladdin, Beast and Pocahontas. Disney legend Kurt Russel voiced adult Copper and recently played Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2!

The Fox and the Hound was the last Disney film to include all the credits in the opening, and conclude with: "The End. Walt Disney productions."
