I drew this earlier in the year when preparing my folder for FWA. I felt I needed some strong inkwork in the folder lol. Dip pens are my favorite! I also touched it up a bit with grey markers.
If you've read Redwall (especially the books Redwall and Mattemeo) then you should know who these two are lol. Although in a more sympathetic portrayal, sheesh.
I wish there was something to read other than Redwall but was also middle ages furries because Redwall is pretty problematic... (Also I kinda find the Redwallers to be pricks and dullards and as an adult have almost no sympathy for them whatsoever). Although I tend to feel bad about pointing that out since I feel like Jacques was a nice enough person and all and I don't think he meant any harm at all, but at the same time it's nearly impossible to reread these books. I liked certain aspects of the setting... hence I wish there was something in that vein to read without the attendant problems Redwall had (puzzles, sense of history and mystery-- good. Black and white views on good and evil and a handling of a varied species world which can only be described as racist, not so good).
Anyway I realized I also didn't have the best example up for Ink commissions so I thought I should upload this lol.

Love this. :D:D:D
Well, if you're looking for books similar to Redwall, I have two suggestions: Mistmantle, and Hermux Tantamoq (the first book in this series is "Time Stops for No Mouse"). In these ones, the animals are not defined as good or evil by their species, but purely by their actions.

Sinister is good! Sinister in what way, though? There are a lot of ways about that lol. Granted, I can presume we don't mean the ignorant sort of "sinister" you'd find in Redwall, and that should be good enough for me. :P But does it get like, spooky, or mysterious, or is there political intrigue or some combination? I like knowing what I'm getting into, once I find it in some form. Only because it helps with my bearings-- sometimes I have to watch or read something twice because I get lost if I expected one thing and got another. :V V:
Yes, spooky, mysterious, and political intrigue. All that stuff happens in Mistmantle. Basically, on the island on Mistmantle, there's a conspiracy to overthrow the current king and queen, and Urchin, the little honey-colored squirrel who just recently became a page, somehow winds up in the middle of it all. Its pretty easy to follow along with, especially since the book itself is shorter than a typical Redwall book.
Alrighty. Ahh, at least keeping along a book is never trouble for me-- sounds like the sort of thing I'll burn through in a sitting (I've done things like read 300 pages in a go, if the writing grabs me enough). Which isn't necessarily a bad thing! I'll have to make sure I check my library's collection and pick it up from there if I can. I'd figure they'd have the electronic versions but those always seem checked out any time I look up the ebooks for anything at my library.
I get what you mean with the whole racial-morality concerns in Redwall, and I also appreciate (and agree with) the notion that you didn't just jump to conclusions that Brian Jacques was trying to promote negative prejudices.
That said, I've been reading all of the books, and am currently in the middle of Doomwyte, thus nearing the end of the series. The series isn't perfect by any means, but they've definitely got a place in my heart as a medieval/fantasy lover and furry fan.
I'll need to try and keep in mind the two stories Kelaiah mentioned to you for a later time, though I've got bunches of other fantasy/medieval adventure stuff on my list already, lol. :)
All that rambling aside, I must say that the artwork itself is very nice! Should you ever take it upon yourself to color it, I'd LOVE to see it!
Good work!
