This was some quick drawings done for a friend to illustrate some "style cues" for 1940's era suits. People wore suits most of the time, back then. People also smoked a lot. such fine style. I put this up as others here may find it useful. scott A. H. Ruggels 1/ 2000\

This was also the era of the 'zoot suit', which none of these gentlemen are sporting. I'm okay with that!

It was a time when people drank heavily, too. I read a number of books by H. Allen Smith a few years back, and you'd swear Prohibition had never happened.

A proper zoot suit is pretty impressive, though, up close. Seen them at certain events here in L.A. (where they were born).

being the cutting edge of fashion usually means being a contrarian or a "rebel". from the clean cut preppie look of the late 80's to Grunge of the 90's
to the Heroin chic of the early ought's, it's a pendulum.

Actually English Men's fashion at the time was a huge influence as well. Saville Row tailoring was envied.

Well Rayon came out in 1936 and Nylon followed suit, but mostly it was various weaves of wool, cotton and linen.
