Is that supposed to be a real bird's skull, or is the species fictitious?

Aside from that, stellar work, as usual. I can see you've calmed your usually untempered, fiery dashes and strokes in this one.

Do you start with a fully rendered pencil drawing, or just lines? I have an interest in gouache, but currently, I keep finding limits...

I'm not sure what you mean as the difference between rendered pencil drawing or just lines.

From the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, specifically Wizard and Glass. One of the Gunslingers, Cuthbert, had a rook's skull that he jokingly hung from a branch as a "lookout."
