His favourite things to hoard are things people are currently using.
This can vary from phones to shoes to cutlery and even a moped.
He loses interest fairly quickly if he's just given the item and prizes an item above all else if someone tries to take it from him.
(The moped is one of his favourite items because the owner tried to take it back no less than a dozen times. He sleeps curled around it.)
His somewhat extreme hoard comes from finding a home within flying distance of Renn.
He was evicted somewhat suddenly from his pack at a young age because he developed a skin condition.
That, paired with his unremarkable looks, convinced his picky (and pretty) pack that he was an embarrassment.
He tried to seek companionship as he travelled, but was unsuccessful until he ran into the territory of the mesa dragon.
Luckily Renn's a lenient soul to other critters and she took the don under her wing, feeling sorry for him.
During Dart's time with her, Renn taught him to survive and be independant and he grew strong. She also encouraged his primal urge to steal and hoard things but would NOT stand for it when he'd try and take anything of hers.
Being stubborn in nature anyway, he kept trying to steal from Renn's hoard until she, in a fit of rage, banished him from her territory.
He attempted to return to her to apologise but- being a typically stubborn dragon- Renn turned him away.
Losing his mother figure for the second time in his life left him bitter and antisocial.
He travelled, growing more agitated to suddenly be without companionship AND without the hoard he'd built up.
Eventually he came to find a decently sized cave in what he considered to be a very pretty location. To his absolute delight the cave was inhabited by bears and he took great pleasure in making their cave his. His new hoard had begun,
Because being a thief (although he doesn't see it as such) means 99% of his interactions with the world outside his cave home are negative, he becomes easily agitated by those he doesn't know.
Anyone approaching his hoard is seen as a threat and usually seen off, but when outside and away from his hoard he's usually a little easier to deal with.
