A quiet, calm chapter in Mel's story. Dr Collins has figured out a thing or two about what's actually happened to her. No one transforms into anything, no one gets naked. Just good old fashioned character development and a bit of science-nonsense exposition. Consider this an attempt to balance out the plotness garbage I've been writing lately. :p

yay! new post!
Slight biology question: If the nanoids are meant to pass through the system, and her personal antibodies were causing the "malfunction" that made them stay in Mel, then why was Speed sick? He should have gotten better after a couple of days and a few good pisses. Or do her antibodies affect the nanoids permanently?
If that 's the case, then the transformation Speed had because of the massive dose he ingested (which shouldn't have worked at all then, not orally anyway) occurred because not only did the antibodies react with the nanoids to actually rewrite them to a specific program (someone ELSE'S DNA, no less. You can't mix antibodies from two different hosts, that's why blood transfusion have to be carefully matched. MAYBE if Mel and Speed had similar blood types that could work, but orally?), but actively empowered them as well?
That is flat out impossible, unless her antibodies are themselves acting like a powerful form of nanotech... Truth be told, it would be very difficult to tell the difference between a nanotech device and a normal cellular organism, which raises all kinds of scary questions.
Otherwise this answers a few questions pretty well. Mel appears to have the Captain America thing going on; some very rare biological properties.
And no, you have not written plotness garbage. You're actually getting pretty good.
Sheesh, there's humility and then there's self-depreciation. One is helpful, the other isn't.
Grow some healthy pride. :)
I liked this chapter, and I'm looking forward to the next.
Good luck!

One way you could get the antibodys plausibly explained is if they basically create a link between Mel's psyche and the nanites. Using the special antibodies as a relais, a - maybe subsconscient, so the surprise - primal part of her mind semi-telepathically reprograms the nanites with what that stone-age part of hers imagines as the ideal shape.
The memory gets imprinted in the antibodies and could only be overwritten by Mel herself, after altering a part of her self-image that is at least as old as her self-perceting conscience, very difficult, and why should she want to alter it away from a state of ideal health.
In another body, the antibody did not need to enter the blood circuit if the nanites are already everywhere and able to communice with each other. So the antibody just needs to collide with the nanites in the salvia ot the stomach to reprogram them and so on.
As the new host has another psychic signature (a mind's fingerprint), they would need much energy - actually enough to develop psychic powers under normal conditions - to overwrite the anitbody's memory by force, and need to be aware of the antibodies, the imprinted memory and how to change it.
An interaction with the AI of the nanites, gene samples they may have taken (if their analysis goes that deep) and the imprinted mental image of the antibodies, based on a set of phsical ideals, would allow them to adapt the ideal shape for another species.
The reason why the nanites stayed in Speed's body and made him ill could be that being in another species and gender than they were programmed for and no trace of their told-to-repair injury caused them to malfunction.

That may seem plausible, but chemically it doesn't make sense. For a nanite to be strong enough to survive in an acidic environment (spit, stomach acid), it would have to be composed in a way that prevents chemical reaction with it.
Thus even Mel's special antibodies couldn't affect them, and they wouldn't be able to move through the bloodstream effectively (they'd be a little too big and wouldn't possess pseudo-cilia for locomotion).
That's why Mel's initial treatment was by IV.
And while I am a staunch advocate of the concept of mind over matter, it just doesn't seem right that she could instantaneously begin production of this new programming antibody almost simultaneously to being exposed to the nanites for the first time.
I do think that you may be on to something with your theory stating that psychosomatic feedback may be a factor. Like I said, I am a staunch advocate of mind over matter.
It looks more like her new antibodies exist to KEEP the nanites in her system (they were supposed to complete their job and then go dormant to be cycled out of the body)
The original treatment was a spinal IV, so it may be possible that a psychoreactive occurrence took place, and that helped to shape the initial transformation.
But I think it was something far simpler, and more sinister sadly.
As to what caused the initial transformation then; well I have my own theory, but yours does have merit.

And a very nice character developement it is! I also like very much how you show how more and more people are involved in the nanite experiment and give the hint that anything could happen in th future.
